As part of the slum rehabilitation sector, we are engaged with slum communities and enable them to change their lives and destinies holistically, thus enabling the CSR Vision of ORDPL, to go “Beyond Structures”. We engage with the slum communities in order to improve their lives and livelihood through our Skill development, Women Empowerment, Health awareness and Environmental Initiatives
Mayuri Bonavate has completed her education till her first year B.com. Her mother - a house helper; went the extra mile to pay her fees. Her family- her parents and brother, earned up to Rs.20,000 p.m and hence needed yet another earning member. The 18 yr old learnt about the skill training session offered by Omkar Foundation through her neighbour and decided to enroll herself in it. Since the commencement of the life skill course, she has constantly felt a positive vibe through the sessions. Mayuri is now working with Urban Clap and is earning about Rs.25,000 per month. The Parksite resident’s drive to succeed helped her achieve her dreams and eventually get a hike in her work which was fueled by the needed exposure and right opportunities through Omkar Foundation.
Amit, a student of Karmvir Bhaurao Patil School secured the first rank in 10th standard; scoring 93%. His father is a security man, whose job fetches him a salary enough to cover only basic necessities. He secured a lot of scholarships for his diploma course from Mahindra and Asian paints. He is currently taking classes for his regular experience and has scored 74% in his diploma. He has been working really hard to make sure he gets what he deserves. He has been able to complete his further studies only because of his consistent good grades. He sure sets a good example for people to work hard and pave their own way to success.
Stories where women decide and work towards making a change have always been encouraging. Such is the case of Neelam Asish Kahar whose family had been facing severe financial crisis. Neelam having moved to Mumbai after her marriage, decided to lessen the financial burden of the big family she's living in, and started working as a cook at May fair & Hell Crest. At present, the 26 yr old is working in a beauty parlor and earning Rs.5,000 per month. Her efforts and hard work have enabled her in achieving her motive and has also led her to a happy life. Both her daughters are currently studying at Sunrise School she wishes to move them to a better school. She didn't give up & Omkar Foundation’s right guidance in this tough game called life has enabled her to get one step closer to fulfilling the wishes and dreams she’s envisaged for her family…
Rupali Rajindra Dhiwar, has set an example of being a true achiever. She was in her first year B.Com and she had to discontinue her studies. Living in a family of 5, she always wanted to be self-reliant to fulfill her wishes on her own. Her mother was a housewife and her father was unemployed since two years. Rupali wanted to study ahead but did not ask for any monetary help from her family. The Parksite resident got to know about SICI from one of her friends and joined the programme along with her.
The 22yr old now earns up to Rs.15,000 p.m working for Urban clap (home & services). “College and skill sessions provided through Omkar Foundation have helped me a lot and given me a sense of confidence I didn't have before” said Rupali in her interview. Right guidance at the right time can serve as a really good help to achieve what’s wanted.
”Omkar Foundation gave me opportunities to prove my caliber and I will be thankful to them forever for that...” said Sana in her interview. Sana Patel one of 5 children of her family, had to discontinue her studies after 10th grade due to lack of funds. She visited the centre when she received a pamphlet from an SICI social worker. She started working and was earning about Rs. 5,000 per month, she is eventually going to enroll herself in the advanced course and will lead to a hike in her salary. Her parents weren’t supportive in the beginning but were happy and convinced after seeing her achieve so much so fast. Positive results always help in changing people’s perceptions about things.
Supriya Rahul Salve, has completed her education till F.Y.B.com. The 24 year old got married 6 months ago and lives in a family of 7 people, with only 3 earning members. Deciding to support her family financially the newlywed planned to work. Her relative informed her about the courses Omkar Foundation was providing and she joined the class that piqued her interest the most. Her classmates were supportive and encouraged her too. She’s now working and gets about 2 customers per day which adds up to Rs.10,000 a week. She’s become an independent woman now and is able to support her family.
