Omkar Foundation Celebrates International Women’s Day


Omkar Foundation successfully celebrated its 3rd edition of Women’s day celebration at Damodar Hall, Parel with a full house of over 550 people in attendance on Thursday, the 8th of March 2018. The women’s day event provided a platform to our 1000+ women beneficiaries to come forward and participate in competitions and display their skills in front of their near and dear ones.

The show started with the unveiling of a CSR film highlighting the work of Omkar Foundation in the past 3 years. It was followed by the unveiling of the testimonial videos featuring success stories of Omkar Foundation beneficiaries many of whom were either participating or sitting in the audience.

Guest of Honour -

The Women’s Day event was graced by the presence of Mrs Usha Devang Varma, wife of our Director, Shri Devang Varma who joinedus and was thrilled by the good work being done by Omkar Foundation and sat till the end to encourage the participants

Our Chief Guest -

Ms Kamalika Guha Thakurta, celebrated India TV personality has worked in popular television shows like Kyunki Saans bhi Kabhi Bahu thi and Naagin to name a few. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Srijon Foundation. In 2015, she launched Artscape,an initiative to use her knowledge on music and dance as a form of therapy to work with underprivileged children and cancer patients.

Our Special Guest -

Ms Shubha Benurwar is a Community Development Officer (CDO) with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), and has two and a half decades of experience in implementation of poverty alleviation policies and forming self-help groups with the women in Mumbai ensuring that destitute women start their own self sustaining business ventures.

Mandar Tandel -

Noted fashion designer from NIFT, Has worked for brands like Giny and Jonny Kids wear and KIMAYA Fashion wear. Participated in Canada Fashion Week in 2000 and was awarded Best Designer Award in 1997 and Best Designer Award in 2001 in IITC.

Mangesh Kamble -

Owner and founder of Mangesh Dance Company (Navi Mumbai), he has participated in Reality Shows like India’s Got Talent, Entertainment ke liye kuch bhi karega, Dance India dance. He was the winner of Kabboom and Boogie Woogie.

Vidya Ghare -

Model and winner of Ms. Raigad Beauty pageant. She is a Trained Kathak dancer and choreographer too. She was awarded with Dana Laxmi Sakhi Sanman Purskar 2018. Currently she is associated with a state level beauty pageant - Maharashtra Saundarya Samradni 2018 as a judge for district level auditions.

The Competitions

• Group Dance Competition -

6 groups came forward to participate in the Group Dance Competition with colourful costumes and high energy performances.

• Omkar Beauty Pageant -

16 participants enlisted in the Miss Omkar Beauty pageant and passed through 3 rigorous rounds of Ramp walk and costume,Round, Question and Answer Round and Prop round to get to the final three winners of Miss Omkar Beauty Pageant.

The Prizes

The 3 winning Groups of the Dance Competition; in the order of 2nd runner up, 1st runner up and The Winning Group were awarded Trophies, Individual medals and Certificates along with exciting Prizes respectively.

The 2nd runner up, 1st runner Up and The Winner Miss Omkar were in true beauty pageant style given winning Saches, individual crowns and exciting Prizes respectively.
The show was a huge success and the audience was enthralled by the grandeur of the show. Omkar Foundation hopes to carry on this legacy next year as well and plans to take the Women's day celebration a notch higher.
