Smokeless Eco- Chulas donated by Omkar Emploees distributed in tribal areas of Kharghar as part of our Green Initiative 25th of March, 2017

A previous visit to a tribal village brought forth a glaring issue that women in these areas were resistant to enroll in skill development courses as they were pre occupied with cooking and collecting firewood for their inefficient traditional chulas.

The Smokeless Eco chulas have proved to be a game changer in this regard. It uses- 65% less wood, produces 70% less smoke and cooks upto 50% times faster, thus improving women’s health, saving forests and freeing up their time to participate in other self and community development activities.

112 Smokeless Eco Chulas, which were donated by Omkar employees, were distributed at DHAMOLE PADA- Kharghar in the second phase of Eco Chula distribution. The tribal women were given a demo on how to use the Eco Chula on the day.

Changemakers of Omkar- Leena Jain

Our very own Ms. Leena Jain deserves a special mention. She is passionate about women’s causes and proved it by leading the Eco Chula donation drive.

Being an avid biker, she rode for the Smokeless Eco Chula cause to promote women’s healthcare and over 100 employees supported her in this endeavor by donating Rs. 1250/- from their salaries so that women in remote areas do not have to suffer the smoke and toxic pollutants while cooking.
